DE STIJL®

The Story

De Stijl is a Dutch art movement, named after the De Stijl magazine, which was first published in Leiden in 1917. The movement is a project run by artist and publicist Theo van Doesburg. The Stijl members were striving for a radical art reform, which was on par with the technical, scientific and social changes in the world. The reform consisted of the use of a minimum of colours and a design which was as simple as possible.

De Stijl is based on the fundamental principle of the straight line, the square
and the rectangle, combined with a strong asymmetry and on the relationship between positive and negative elements in an arrangement of non-objective
forms and lines, all fixed in the 3 primary colours next to black, white and grey.

Inspiration

The strengths of the De Stijl artistic movement define every detail within this collection. The designers have been inspired by a chair construction, a graphic composition, elements of a house facade or colour balances and hereby show respect for the principles set by their forefathers: Theo van Doesburg, Gerrit Rietveld and Piet Mondriaan.
De Stijl is a journey through time, a fusion of the first steps of modern art and contemporary industrial design; a homage to the Dutch visionaries from the last century.

Design

De Stijl’s collection of eyewear follows in the footsteps of the artists that stood at the origins of the movement. Each model’s basic design is a search for harmony through the use of lines and right angles and for the balance between the colours underlining the composition. The various elements are combined into an architectural entirety without the use of screws or welding by the hinge, which is the real masterpiece within the frames.

Metals

All metal components used in DeStijl frames are manufactured from stainless steel. This highly durable, non-allergic material provides you with very comfortable wear. Ion Plating technology has been used to create the majority of colour tones. Originating from the aviation industry, this technology ensures an extremely durable coloured layer.

Hinge

The frames in De Stijl collection feature an exclusive hinge. The components of the patented hinge are seamlessly merged. It is manufactured entirely from stainless steel, giving it an extreme strength and unprecedented durability. The absence of screws means that the spectacle temple cannot become loose or wobble.

This technological concentration contains a unique flex system and integrated adjustment options enabling optimal maintenance and a maximum ease of use.
