blue-light1Every color of light has a specific wavelength. Everyone knows that ultraviolet (UV) light burns the skin, irritates the cornea and can lead to cataracts. What recent research reveals is that there is also a danger from blue light. High Energy Visible light (HEV) in the blue end of the spectrum, right next to the burning rays of ultraviolet light penetrates deep into the eyeball focusing its energy on the macula.

Every time you use a digital device, computer, tablet or even your phone, dangerous blue light, that is used to brighten your screen reaches your macula. Every time you turn on an energy efficient light bulb, you fill your eyes with destructive blue light.

The shorter wavelengths of this blue light (blue violet) have been proven to lead to Macular Degeneration, irreparably damaging the macula, the region of the retina responsible for detailed central vision.

The longer wavelengths (blue-turquoise) of this HEV light inhibit the production of melatonin which signals the brain to rest. This can severely disrupt sleep patterns and lead to sleep loss.
