ALLERGIES

What’s happening to your eyes?

It’s a lovely time of the year. Plants and trees that have been dormant all winter are returning to life with beautiful blooms and lush greenery. Most plants, grasses and even trees, release pollen, a lighter than air dust that floats all around us.

How pollens affect your eyes

If you are sensitive, and many people are, when you encounter these pollens your immune system reacts and you can experience any, or all, of these symptoms:

  • Scratchy throat
  • Itchy eyes
  • Sneezing, wheezing and coughing
  • Runny nose
  • And, almost always your contact lenses will not be as comfortable as they usually are

What you can do

For contact lens related discomfort contact your Parrelli Optical Eyecare Specialist for recommendations or further consultation.

For general relief, your doctor may recommend Over-The-Counter (OTC) allergy relief drops. After testing, your physician may recommend a prescription medication. Some of these drops are not compatible with contact lenses so also talk to your Parrelli Optical Contact Lens fitter. Finally, a series of shots to reduce your sensitivity has been show to work effectively.

Most of all, don’t worry, it will all be over soon and summer will be upon us!
